| It is universally acknowledged that China is a large agricultural country, whose ruralpopulation accounts for more than half. As a result, the rural teachers shoulder greatresponsibility of education. So it is the same with teachers’ professional development in ruralareas. However, it is astonishing to find it is far behind that in city. The reasons lie in that therural areas are special in environment and teaching conditions are rather backward. The newcurriculum reform poses another threat to rural teachers’ development. Though hugequantities of research have been carried out, the research on such aspect is limited. In a word,the picture of rural teachers’ professional development is slim.However, the author would rather focus her attention on this aspect. The essay tries tofigure out the rural chemical teachers’ professional development in Pingshan County as asample, through on-the–spot investigation, questionnaire and interview. Based on dataanalysis, the chemical teachers have a poor command of new curriculum in new era. Theessay is meant for rural teachers to understand the status of teachers’ professionaldevelopment according to three factors, including teachers themselves, school and society.Finally, the author put forward practical strategies to promote chemical teachers’professional development, such as online learning, local research,teaching reflection andmentoring teaching and so on.The author, as a living example, points out the motivation and methods which arelacking in the rural chemical teachers. In a word, the research could help local chemicalteachers recognize the reality and put forward some valid and effective measure s to actualizethe professional development. |
