As a prominent bureaucrat、scholar、and educational reformer in QingDynasty. Ruan Yuan adhered to academic research and made outstandingcontributions to the official-oriented imperial examinations reform. Moreover, thenew-style academies such as Gujing jingshe and Xuehai tang were established tocultivate talents of great use of society, which had positive impact on a large numberof new-style academies in the late Qing Dynasty. Besides, there were many features inhis administrative activities and methods and still exerted revelatory effect.Nowadays, the research concerning educational achievements of Ruan Yuanmainly focused on his educational thoughts of studying for the sake of application、the establishment of Gujing jingshe and Xuehai tang、curriculum installation、teachingcharacteristics and influence, etc.According to investigate administrative activities of Ruan Yuan, the text aimed atstudying its academic background.、the origin of thoughts、 characteristics、influenceand deficiency and so on. All these helped us have a comprehensive understandingand evaluation of Ruan Yuan’s administrative activities. The text concentrated on thefollowing four parts:Firstly, the academic background of Ruan Yuan’s educational administrativeactivities was composed of his diverse identities such as a bureaucrat、publisher、scholar、educational reformer and technological amateur.Secondly, Ruan Yuan’s thoughts origin of administrative activities involvedthought of studying for the sake of application、western learning and reflection ofeight-legged essays system.Thirdly, Ruan Yuan’s administrative activities included many aspects as follows:systems of running a school、Teaching、Examination and encouragement、electing teachers and students、curriculum installation、management of expense、booksand cutting blocks for printing,etc.Fourthly, the educational thoughts of studying for the sake of application.Combination of the Old and the New. Combination teaching and research. Teachingaccording to students’ aptitude. Applying pleasure to teaching were regarded as thefeatures of Ruan Yuan’s administrative activities.Finally, the influence was mainly showed by setting an example for a largenumber of new-style academies and cultivating a large quantity of intellectuals ofgreat use of society. Teaching contents lost contact with reality and standing for HanLearning and restrained the Song Learning were disadvantages.
