Education needs to cultivate talents within high level spiritual characters, talents within humanization and talents produced by individual life overall. The integrated formation of natural individual and humanization depend on the edification of excellent culture. The edification education has a long historical tradition in China. However, influenced by the utilitarianism and instrumentalism, the present Chinese education loses its cultural identity. What’s more, the status of culture edification is worrying. Aiming at this bad situation, the paper analyzes the present situation of culture edification in the middle school reading teaching. And the paper gives introspection and attribution. Also, under the connotation of culture edification, the paper proposes the methods of changing and measures to advance.The object of this paper is to study the cultural edification in the middle school reading teaching. The article is divided into three parts. The first part focuses on the discourse and interpretation of the cultural connotations in the reading teaching. As to its basic connotation, the paper tries to define the concept from the definition and understanding of culture primarily. As to the word "culture", it has a certain complexity and diversity. The paper removes its material and institutional factors here, which reserves the spirit factors. The culture in the reading education refers to the cognition and education to bring students truth, goodness and beauty in the Chinese teaching activities. And it is also helpful to mould students’values, aesthetic taste, moral sentiments and so on, which is the summation of the spirit elements.The second part is about the situation and introspection of cultural edification in the reading teaching. The situation is that quick wins influence the teaching badly, and the utility of excellent cultural edification is ignored. In view of this situation, the paper introspects the causing reasons. The reasons are mainly three factors, such as dislocation of material culture spirit, teachers’ignorance to the cultural spirit in the teaching and the loss of learning subject,"students" to the cultural spirit.The third part is about the change and propelling of cultural edification in the reading teaching. The changing in the actual reading teaching activities should be reflected in three aspects. Firstly, the choice of reading teaching target should highlight the cultural spirit; secondly, the contents of reading teaching should place emphasis on the choice of cultural spirit; thirdly, the choice of tactics in the reading teaching should have cultural spirit guiding. Next is the propelling of the implementation of cultural edification. Edification occurs under the influence of external factors, and it is a gradual influence process from outside to inside enculturation. So, the paper mainly explores the two factors:the textbooks and teachers, which removes the students. Implementing cultural edification in the middle school reading teaching is the need of the development of times. Through the exploration, we can amend cognitive bias and establish correct concept. By attaching importance to the cultural edification in teaching practice, we aim at cultivating more high level talents within cultural characters.
