National Defense Education And Students' Responsibility Construction

Responsibility is an inherent and ubiquitous thing in our social relations which links between man and man, man and society, man and nature and exists in every position in human life. Everybody, no matter who he is, should have certain responsibility for the self, the nation, the society and the natural world. Responsibility is the basic element in the construction of one’s moral quality and the basis for one to deal with people and things. Responsibility is the premise for "To be a good man and do good deeds". Without responsibility, it does harm to oneself, other people, the society and the nation. It is required by a harmonious society and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation to be a responsible man, a man with high sense of responsibility.University students with important mission on their shoulders are the most vigorous and promising group, the mainstay of the future of our country, and the vanguard to put forward history and social progress. The problem whether a university student has strong sense of responsibility concerns the success or failure of the course of our party. As for university students over18years old, they are legal citizens and have entered into a phase to shoulder all kinds of responsibilities. However, because our country is now in the transformation of social development, there exist some bad social habits and conventions, and some flaws in from university students themselves, especially the influence of the infiltration of internationalized trend of thought, contemporary university students hold multiple values and standards. There does exist the phenomena of consciousness weakening or the trend of responsibility emotionalized or utilized. In recent years, there is a rise for university students committing suicide which, in some way, reflects the spiritual state and responsibility crisis of university students. So how to develop the consciousness of university students has become a critical issue that must be solved by higher education. It is also required by higher education in order to cultivate qualified builders and trustworthy successors.National defense is an important thing which concerns the rise or fall of a nation and closely connects to the benefit of every citizen. The motto,"The rise and fall of the nation is the concern of every citizen. All men share a common responsibility for the fate of their country." always alarms people that every citizen shares this unshakable responsibility which concerns the safety of the country and the rise of the nation. It has always been a strategic issue highly emphasized by our Central Committee of the party to strengthen military education, to enforce military notion and consciousness of responsibility. Military education at school is the basis of national military education, especially in the background of global economic integrity. The severer the international competitions are, the more complicated environment and more challenge our country would encounter. It has become a new historical mission for higher education to establish students’sense of hardship in peace time, to strengthen their military notion and cultivate their sense of responsibility and sense of mission.It is required by the teaching in military education to cultivate the consciousness of responsibility of university students from the analysis of the nature, the special aim, the contents and pattern of military education. It has been proved by practice that typical cases in military education, lessons from failure, some racial heroes, especially such periods of history as modern history of China can arouse students’ national feelings and their strong sense of responsibility and mission. It is also a new demand in this new era to explore how to construct university students’ consciousness of responsibility, to update the mode of thinking in order to make university students into qualified citizens.In the present situation of the university students’ military consciousness and military education, we should make full use of the role military education plays in constructing university students’ responsibility consciousness by doing these:to closely aim at educational target and reform educational notion; to strengthen the construction of the teaching groups and teachers’ educational responsibility; to extend the range that education would cover by the use of network platform; to explore and reform teaching methods and tamp the ideological basis of responsibility consciousness so as to nurture the feelings of responsibility consciousness in teaching and improve responsibility ability in practice.
