Influences of dialects’accent to English pronunciation acquisition have long been the important field of the studies of the Second Language Acquisition (SLA). Many domestic scholars have made lots of researches directing at effects of various regional accent to English pronunciation acquisition. However, studies on Chaoyang accent haven’t appeared from the perspective of Second Language Acquisition till now. This paper is to investigate the influence of Chaoyang accent on the acquisition of English pronunciation. By comparing speech sound system among English, Chaoyang dialect and Chinese PTH, the paper reveals pronunciation errors influenced by local accent, and puts forward corresponding suggestions, so that teachers can be more effective to help students make great progress in English pronunciation.Based on the theories of contrastive analysis hypothesis and language transfer theory, the thesis adopts field investigation method, chooses questionnaire and pronunciation test as the research tools and30Senior One students of Chaoyang County High School as the subjects. Through the phonetic recording, it is found that the influence of negative transfer of Chaoyang local accent on English pronunciation is the main factor, which results in pronunciation errors of the local learners. The research questions to be solved in the thesis are:(1) What are the features of Chaoyang dialect and the distinction among English, Chinese PTH and Chaoyang dialect in phonetic system?(2) How does Chaoyang local accent influence its local high school students’English pronunciation and what’s the reason?(3) What teachers and learners should do to avoid pronunciation errors caused by influence of the negative transfer of local accent?The research results show that:Chaoyang local students use Chaoyang local accent [e] to replace English vowels/e/,/(?)/and/ai/respectively; in most of the English words, Chaoyang local students use local accent e[γ] instead of English/(?)/; use Chaoyang local accent ei[ei] to replace English/i/; duo to the influence of Chinese s [s] and z[ts], English consonants/θ/,/(?)/are often pronounced as/s/,/z/; confuse English/w/and/v/or directly use/w/to replace/v/. Moreover, the questionnaire results show that learners are lack of recognition of the existing problems and main reasons.This study indicates that, in the process of English phonetic teaching, it is necessary to contrast the speech sound system among Mandarin, dialect and English from the places of articulation and the manners of articulation. Teachers should base on the present fact of students, focus on the difficulties phonemes, correct dialect area students’pronunciation errors and improve the students’ pronunciation level. The study also provides reference for teachers in other dialect areas.
