With the further development of school-based educational research in our country, teachers’action research expends constantly. Based on the theory of teachers’ professional growth, this thesis will center on middle school teachers’action research and analyze the existing problems, by investigating the current situation of teachers’ action research and the researching ability in the middle schools in Xi’an city. Finally, grounded in the theory of teachers’ professional growth and the actual conditions of middle school teachers, the thesis will put forward the primary strategies to improve the method of teachers’action research and to cultivate the ability of teachers’action research in middle school.This investigation shows that middle school teachers’action research has been widespread in the large modern cities in our country, whereas in the mid-sized or small cities and towns, there are some middle school teachers who have desire to do the research and some of them indeed have done that, but it is hard to for them to carry on due to sorts of difficulties. The main difficulties that confront the middle school teachers are as follows:1. The teaching research theories are not put into practice.2. Teachers’ awareness of doing researches is weak.3. Academic leaders have little effect on doing the researches and no specialists and scholars give directions.4. There is a lot of pressure on the teachers finishing the heavy teaching task, so there is little time for them to do the research. Problems:1. Middle school teachers know little about the educational theories and do not master them systematically.2. Due to the lack of statistical methods of education, the majority of middle school teachers have limited ability in analysis.3. The ability of the most middle school teachers is under the unbalanced development.To cure the above problems, this paper presents the following suggestions:The aspect of improving the current situation:1. To strengthen the cultivation and training of teach ers in an all-round way, and deepen teachers’understanding of action research.2. To sti mulate teachers’study motivation, and establish the confidence of teachers in action res earch.3. To arrange task as a whole, and provide guarantee for teachers’action research.4. To bring into play the academic leader’s leading role, strengthening the cooperation b etween the teachers’research.5. Middle school teachers should seize the opportunity, ha ve the courage to challenge themselves and try to be research-oriented teachers.6. To i mprove teacher evaluation mechanism, and establish a scientific incentive mechanism; The aspect of ability cultivation:1. To strengthen the education scientific research theor etical basis, and improve the ability of action research in practice.2. To grasp the curren t ability of teachers, and coordinate the development of teachers’ action research ability.3. To increase the school-based educational research management and training efforts in order to enhance teachers’ action research ability.4. To grasp the point with surface, an d establish action research teaching and research section. With these suggestions, this pa per wants to provide the basis for middle school teachers’ action research ability and thi nking, and to promote teachers’ professional growth.
