Children with autism have three aspects of main obstacle:social interaction, communication and stereotypic behaviour, in which one of the biggest is the communication barriers. With the communication obstacles, autistic children will affect the social development. About half of autism children is lack of social interaction. Therefore researching the system which can augmentative and alternative the communication function has far-reaching significance for autistic children.Augmentative and alternative communication system began to use in the field of health care and education in the1970s, and had achieved good results. For a system with the function of augmentative and alternative, it appeared largely solved the problem of language communication disorder can’t normal communication with others, for some children it also offers a support to the process of language learning. According to literature review, using augmentative and alternative communication has certain foundation in developed countries, but it is still in the theoretical stage in China. According to Cook’s model of four major factors people, supporting technology, activities and scenarios, the study design and develop the augmentative and alternative communication which is suitable for children with autism.In order to verify the effectiveness of the system, this study selected five children with autism who are in the Hangzhou Hushu school.Using of single subject experimental design, this study records of participants at baseline period, interventional period and maintenance of communication behaviour, using reliability analysis, one sample T test method and C statistics for data processing and analysis. Data shows that autistic children received training using augmentative and alternative communication system, the number of communication is increased obviously, quit training, their communication behaviour can be maintained.
