Since reform and opening up, great changes have taken place in China’s political,economic, cultural sides. Chinese pop music has gone through rapid development with thepace of reform and opening up. As a popular culture, with its unique features, it is loved bythe students. As time goes by, popular music on the one hand reflects the change in the valueorientation of college students; on the other hand, it also affects the value orientation ofcollege students. There has an important significance in studying the impact of popular musicon the law of the ideological and political education of college students. So this paper fromthe point of time clue, tries to describe the orientation changes of pop music on collegestudents’ values since reform and opening. And to provide effective ways and means as topopular music affect the law of value orientation, rational use of popular music ideologicaland political education for college students.The first part gives a relative definition of college students’ orientation value and therelationship between them. Part Two gives a detailed analysis and summary of the history andfeatures of popular music for the past30years since the reform and opening up. According tothe development of pop music, it can be divided into different stages. First, at the beginningtime, the revival of pop music inland. Second, Northwest Wind songs blow and the wholecountry in a red cycle. Third, the rise of folk music, a variety of music intertwined era.Fourth, Century period, a new chapter in praise of the motherland. Fifth,Information age, agrowing number of network songs. And at each stage it describes the main characteristics andthe process of change with typical music students like in this period. Part three makes acontrast and analysis of the common features of the two through questionnaires andinterviews in order to find out the positive and negative impacts of pop music on theorientation values of college students. In the end, it supplies some suggestions aboutideological and political education on college students.
