“Ecological Engineering” is one of the latest topics of biology curriculum3ofsenior middle school, which helps to enrich the students’ ecological knowledge andimproves students’ ability to analyze and solve problems. However, because thatecological engineering is new to students and has complicated ecology principles, researches on special topics instructing in ecological engineering is currently few andscattered. This article focuses on the teaching status of this topic, analyzes and studiesconfusion and problems of the teachers and students from ten senior middle schools inour country during the special topics instructing in ecological engineering, makes asurvey of the actual status of launching the special topics instructing in ecologicalengineering in senior middle schools, and makes analysis of the survey results.Results:(1) Teaching material, which is of moderate difficulty but relativelynew and highly specialized, is difficult for teachers who don’t possess EcologicalEngineering background to understand and give lessons. But examinations arerelatively simple compared with textbook content, which shows a case of "highstarting point, low impact point."(2) Requirements from perspectives of knowledge, emotion, attitude and values in the Standard are basically matched by students. However, students have not enough training to improve practical ability, and there isnot easy way to evaluate the improvement of the practical ability, there seems to be agap between the practical ability of the students and the requirement of Standard.(3)Some teachers hold the view that examinations of ecological engineering are toospecialized and there is lack of an effective way to test students.(4) Most teachers donot have problem with the total class hours, that is to say they are able to makelessons completed within a preset number of classes.(5) Confusions and difficulties ofthe students during the studying of the Ecological Engineering are surveyed, including:knowledge being abstract and difficult to understand; some principles being similar;examples being difficult to remember; teaching material being obscure; theories notbeing closely integrated with real world and difficult to understand.(6) Learning effectof the students needs to be enhanced. In order to better optional course, the author believes that there needs effortsfrom students and teachers, by which the author also gives some advices. Teachersshould continue to consolidate the basis of the ecological engineering knowledge andput attention to the explanation of the origins of ecological engineering and theintegration of old and new ecological knowledge.Students should correct learningattitude and focus on the local ecological engineering construction.
