The view of "play as the basic activities in kindergarten" is generally certificated by the expert and specialist form the field of pre-school education. The fact that collective teaching activities is widespread is also true. So many people begin to think how to make collective teaching activities like paly, which is more interesting and more popular among children. It appears that appropriate teaching pay maybe can reduce the gap between the ideology and the action. Based that, this thesis analysis the present situations of teaching play in small-class from the point of collective teaching activities, and raises some suggestions according to the writer’s own classroom observations.This study adopted qualitative research method including natural observation, interview method and text-analysis. We gone deep into the collective teaching activities, showing and explaining the results from the filed、the kinds and the function of teaching play. The main results are as follows:On the filed, teaching play is regularly used in the activities of languages and health, and lesser used in science and art, and hardly used in social. Upon the kinds of teaching play, teachers design a rich variety of games, among which the game of language is largely used and the number of music game is at least, reflecting a large imbalance between the fields. Practice and consolidate, movement alternately, stimulating interests, increasing playing experiences and observation and evaluation are the main functions of teaching play.On the analysis of the cases, we summary up some typical problems about teaching play:the play is not for all children; the subject status of children is deprived; improper choice of play types; play is out of line with the teaching content. The researcher thinks that the large class size and limited space activities, interferences from curriculum plans of kindergarten, the general and simple design of teaching plans, challenges from children are the main factors affecting the carrying of teaching play. In the last part the researcher puts forward pieces of advice:using different types of teaching play flexibly; designing and organizing teaching play for all the children; returning the right of play to children; teaching play should be suitable to teaching content; fully prepared and flexible adjustment, hoping that this thesis can provide some reference for teachers of preschool education.
