In the view of microscopic sociology, this study, through empirical research, focuses on the generational change status of the primary school students’ play at recess of the1950’s, the1970’s and the2000’s.After studying on the related literature, the researcher applied the method of text analysis and questionnaire survey to conduct a general investigation of the childhood recess games of the primary school student’s grandparents (the50’s), parents (the70’s). According to the results, the parents and grandparents have a deep memory of their childhood playmates and recess games. They think childhood passing game time is relatively abundant, game content close to nature, more toys for their production and getting a lot from the game. The further study of analysis all kinds of text restore the status of the children’s recess games.The researcher also went into a city elementary school C in Nanjing to investigation, thorough description of the current primary school recess games. By using the method of observation, interviews, text analysis, I found that the present primary school recess game types, methods, peer interaction are different from their parents and grandparents. The time of primary school recess games is badly shrunk and the space is limited. Although the children are not short of recess games, but there are fewer people involved and the types of games are limited, the toys are mostly adopted by the senior stationery.Through comparing the condition of the three generations of recess games, the study induces that the generational differences are mainly embody the following aspects:the time between the classes tending to be less, modern playground, the types of games from dynamic to static, toys from homemade to commercialization, lost of nursery rhymes and so on. Behind the recess games, children’s culture also changes:the differences in values of enjoying oneself with careful playing, playing naturally with playing by human intervention,cultural sources of local culture and electronic media and so on. The researcher believes that the urbanization process、the information age、the changing of social ideas are the main reasons for the differences.Finally, this research from the focus on children’s all-round development, construct equal interpersonal relationship and respect children’s independent personality reaffirmed education significance of children’s game, in order to awaken people to the children’s game of memory and understanding, to further excavate the education game.
