| The American witnessed a series of revolutions after the Second World War. Firstly,the whole tertiary industry has flourished due to the Industrial restructuring. Secondly,the states promulgated a series of laws and revolutions to improve the situations of theracial discrimination since the Civil Rights Movement. And as a result, the social statusof the African-American won a great improvement. Thirdly, since the second feministmovement, the gender discrimination has been less and less and the status of feminist hasbeen greatly improved. Based on those backgrounds, the Afro-American women, whoown double identities, one as African-American, another as women, have changed theirstatus. Most importantly, as a part of Afro-American women, the middle class of theAfro-American women have great improvement in economical, educational and familystatus. This dissertation studies the middle class of the Afro-American women in theview of History and the knowledge of Sociology, Women’s Studies and Ethnic Studies.Through the study we can describe the basic image of the middle class of theAfro-American women and show the change of the American society after the SecondWorld War. This dissertation divided into three parts to studies the middle class of theAfro-American women.The first part is the introduction of dissertation. It concludes the basis for thedissertation’s topic, the overseas and domestic research status, the structure of thedissertation and the dissertation’s academic values and practical significances.The second part is the body section of the dissertation and it is divided into fourchapters. The first chapter is the definition and the analysis of the composition of theAfro-American women middle class. The second chapter is the analysis of the changes ofthe Afro-American women middle class’s society status between before the SecondWorld War and after the World War Ⅱ. Firstly, this chapter briefly introduces thesituation of the Afro-American women middle class’ status in the point of economy,politic, education and family before the Second World War. Secondly, it mainly analysesthe Afro-American women middle class’ education level, political status, economic levelsand family roles after the World War Ⅱ. By comparing the changes between the two periods, it draws a conclusion that the status of the Afro-American women middle classhas been improved. Thirdly, this chapter summarizes the reasons for the changes of thegroup’s status in the four sections: the Second World War, the Industrial restructuring, theCivil Rights Movement and the second feminist movement. The third chapter is thesummarization of the characteristics of the Afro-American women middle class and theimpacts to the whole United States due to the changes of the Afro-American femalemiddle class’s status.The third part is the conclusion of the condition of the whole Afro-American womenmiddle class. At the same time, it point out the social discrimination which the middleclass of the Afro-American women faced. As a result, the group should work together toimprove and enhance their conditions and influence. |
