This study analyzes the reasons why junior high school students’academic achievement is lower in Xishuangbanna, Yunnan Province by using questionnaire method and interview method.Xishuangbanna, Yunnan Province is located in the southwest border areas of China. The climate here belongs to the tropical and subtropical monsoon climate, and the weather here is hot and humid all the year round. The developed rubber industry is the main pillar of their economy. The local Theravada Buddhism prevailed in this area. Cultural customs are also rich and colorful here. The local education quality is generally low, and students’ academic problems and their poor academic achievements are common to see in this area.This study discusses the overall briefing of the students’attribution of the academic achievements in M-town middle school. This can be introduced according to the following four aspects:gender, grade, academic level and ethnic. By using quantitative questionnaire, the difference and characteristics of different groups of students can be found in the end. Because of attributing their poor academic achievement to poor ability and insufficient effort, many students in this area acquire a sense of learned-helplessness, eventually leading to their poor academic achievement.This study analyzes the complex reasons concerning about junior high school students’ poor academic achievement by using qualitative interview method. Problems lying in school education and social culture also lead to junior high school students’poor academic achievement in this area. It further clarifies on the reasons for the poor academic achievements of the junior high school students in this junior high school according to the following three aspects: students’ individual attribution, schools education and social-cultural perspective aspects. Students’individual attribution includes the characteristics of the individual attribution consciousness and individual attribution dimensions; school education perspective discussion consists of the following four perspectives:the aims of education, curriculum content, teaching methods and the educational evaluation analysis; The socio-cultural perspective analysis refers to the following three points:social economic condition, religious customs and culture as well as local educational tradition.According to the reason analysis of poor academic achievement, we put forward to some inspirations to improve junior high school students’ academic achievement in this area, hoping to improve the quality of education in minority regions eventually. The study focuses on the innovative measures of poor academic achievements in this minority area. Those effective measures consist of the following three aspects:the inspirations from the foreign study concerning about improving student’ academic achievements, the introduction to local teachers’ improving student academic achievements and my recommendations to improve students’ academic achievements according to the conclusion of this study from micro and macro two different levels.
