Because of the unfavorable grades and low quality of the students in publicsenior schools, differentiated instruction is thus put forth to influence the presentteaching and implement the teaching reform according to students’ different levels.Differentiated instruction, the essence of which is to teach at different levels, is amore flexible teaching method, which breaks off traditional teaching and is beneficialto each student. The writer studies the effect of differentiated instruction on senior studentsthrough a comparative research of students’ grades and learning process in one classwith traditional teaching and the other with differentiated instruction. In this study, a questionnaire and three mathematical test papers are designedin three different stages. Students from an ordinary class and an experimental classwill be asked to complete the questionnaire and tested. The study shows thatdifferentiated instruction improves the students greatly. The results are as follows.1. Differentiated instruction is superior to traditional one in terms of theimprovement of students’ grades.2. Compared with traditional teaching, differentiated instruction narrows thegaps between different levels, which is good for students of different levels in oneclass.3. Compared with traditional teaching, differentiated instruction has a positiveeffect on students’ learning process which includes learning willingness, learningstrategies, learning enthusiasm etc. This paper has discussed and analyzed the study results and put forward somesuggestions for differentiated instruction.1. Learner-centreed,teahers should focus on the differences of learners andtake different methods.. Teachers should focus on thedifference of learners, thinkabout how to teach, value the participation of students and the feedback of teaching.2. Divide the group flexibly, thinking about how to value the participation of different students and the feedlack of teaching.3. Based on students’ different needs, homework can be alternative.4. Use multiple evaluation criteria.
