Graceful Chant:the Self—recognition Of A Inner Chamber In Mid—Qing Dynasty

Usually,in our’s mind, the women in China ancient have not their own personal dignity or independent status under the patriarchal society,as the old saying:women were forced to obey their fathers before marriage, their husbands after marriage and their sons if they became widowed. but the book Teachers of the Inner Chambers written by Dorothy Ko, demolished the view of May Fourth Historical Attitude, from the angle of Women and Culture. In my essay,I will dispute the life style and position oneself of the female intellectuals and why is this to the further in the Mid-Qing Dynasty.In the first sight, the Women in China ancient have not voice. History record mention women very few, of course in the essay of male intellectual will mention women, but they are not from women themselves. It is so good the Qing Dynasty left a lot of female poem, so we can image the life and thought of women depend those poem, and this is the voice of women themselves. In this essay, the time is Mid-Qing Dynasty. The object is Suiyuan Female pupil, and the depend corpus is the selected poem of Suiyuan Female pupil.The recovery of the life style from the female intellectual’s poems, give us a new sight that the female intellectuals live a Elegant living like the male intellectuals’.In this point, the boundaries of men and women is very dim. They share the common name"intellectual".We found the female poesy was very praised by each other through the Conversation poetry or lament. And this says the female they want their identity is "female intellectual", and this point can be proved through the poem of flower, the female always write the poem of club chrysanthemum and orchid.Why the Inner Chamber want to live a intellectual life, and want themselves to be a female intellectual as their identity, except the big background of politic,economy, culture, I will analyze this problem from the male intellectuals’push, juse because the male intellectuals’praise make the female want to be a intellectual. In the marriage market,the man want to get a intellectual wife,and persue a ideal marriage partner. So the advantage of marriage market make the female want make a change. from the point of the female,after they learn reading and writing,they will think the life meaning deeply,then with the Inner Chamber’self-awakening, they want a dependent role like "intellectual female",and through this role,they want to communicate with the male intellectual equal.
