In the context of education globalization, cross-cultural communication becomes increasingly important means of cultural transmission. It is through communication in learning, culture and competition that education internationalization can be realized and education resources of high quality shared. The study and reports of cross-cultural communication in middle schools are rare; hence there is big significance of the research on cross-cultural adaptation, psychology and second language acquisition of short-term middle school students.This thesis paper primarily tackles about the Homestay anxiety during the short-term interschool communication of middle school students from Germany, India, Singapore, South Korea and Hong Kong S.A.R. in Hangzhou Greentown Yuhua School.This research attempts to study the changes of level of Home-stay Anxiety, during the duration of their exchange program. With the aid of in-depth interview, the researcher was able to figure out the problems and factors that affect their Home-stay Anxiety. The results show that after staying at host family, the students’cross-cultural anxiety levels were significantly lesser than before. The results showed that there are6major factors that affected middle school students’Home-stay Anxiety:Individual factors, Social supports, Life changes, Values, Foreign language skills and Knowledge of cross-cultural study. Gender, age and time of duration of home-stay advance and deteriorate the Home-stay Anxiety as well.Based on these results, the researcher proceeds into the in-depth interview in which the results showed that Home-stay students have emotional and cognitive anxiety that create feelings of fear, worry, uneasiness, and dread while the behavioral components are rare.According to the findings, the paper tries to make some strategies in order to reduce Home-stay Anxiety and enhance communication effectiveness.
