Since the1980s, problem solving has become one of the most attention content. Therefore to cultivate students’ability of problem solving also become an important work in mathematic education. With the development of the new curriculum reform, now we are no longer just to require the students to solve some simple problem which can be deduced by using formula, but to pay more attention to students’ability of solving practical problems. Through it, students can experience the important role of mathematic in students’personal life, social life and scientific application, which lay a better foundation in our life and production for future mathematic application. So in order to better improve the ability of students, it is necessary for us to research students’ performance in a certain situation of problem solving.Is the mathematic problem situation type has an effect on students’ problem solving? What factors lead to the differences of students’mathematical problem solving ability? This is the main problem in this paper.According to the PISA test for the classification of the problem situation and the literature for the classification of the type of characterization, the author determined the type of situation and characterized. Besides, according to the university entrance exam, George Polya’s problem solving sheet and the need of the research, I compiled the problem solving tests and the interview outline, and then made a study on qualitative and quantitative analysis.Main conclusions are as follows:(1) The performance of students under different mathematical problem situation exists certain differences. Students perform better in personal situation, followed by scientific context, finally the life situation which constitutes a positive correlation relationship with the students’familiarity to the type of situation. In addition, good students are not susceptible to the influence of the situation.(2) For high school students, the interference conditions of the problem do not constitute their important barrier to solve problems. But when there is an interference condition, students will increase their problem solving time and the uncertainty of solving the problem. (3) High school students no longer limited to some fixed way of characterization, they have a capability of comprehensive characterization. But a lot of students also have some problems on correct selection and conversion of the problem representation, which is one of the most important role that influent students’ problem solving.(4) As students do not do very well on mathematic concepts、laws、theorems、properties and so on, or have no idea on the same structure pattern,which lead to the messy of students’ knowledge network when they are performing the pattern recognition. This aspect becomes another barrier influence the students’ problem solving.(5) In the process of solving the problem, students will also be influenced by some personal emotions.
