Task-based language teaching (TBLT) has attracted attention of experts and Englishteachers in China. It emphasizes the importance of organizing a course aroundcommunicative tasks that learners need to do outside the classroom,and facilities learnersto do tasks required in language use.The essence of task-based learning is a process oflearning by doing”,in which learners engage in naturalistic learning through experiencingand exploring language.The purpose of this thesis is to prove that task-based teaching method is effective inEnglish reading class in senior high school,and it can enhance the students’ readinginterest and ability,and change SEFC students learning styles from passive reception toself-access,cooperation and exploration.In order to confirm the point, the author carriedout an experiment in two classes in Senior Grade One in No.1High School of AlaShan.One class is experimental class;the other is the control class.Task-based teaching methodwas employed in the experimental class,and traditional teaching method was employed inthe control class.The experiment lasted for four months.A questionnaire was made at theend of the experiment. Based upon the analysis of the data,the students in theexperimental class who take task-based reading training make more remarkable progress inEnglish reading comprehension ability compared to the control class.The result of the experiment proves that task-based language teaching in Englishreading class is feasible and effective, in which the students are less dependent on theteacher. And their reading scores have been improved obviously. The result of thequestionnaire also proves that in English reading class, the students have accepted thetask-based teaching to English reading teaching and like it very much.The whole paper is made up of five chapters.The first chapter is an introduction,which states the background,purpose andsignificance of this study. The second chapter is about literature review,with the models of reading process andtheir limitations, definitions of task and its rationales and so on..The third chapter deals with the experimental design of this study.The experimentconsists mainly of two parts.First,two tests were given to the subjects both from the ECand the CC, the purpose of which is that if the task-based teaching is used in reading classof senior school, the reading scores of students can be improved. Second,a questionnairesurvey was done to see whether the senior school students can accept and like thetask-based teaching or not.The fourth chapter is designed to data processing. The statistic SPSS was used.Theresults of the experiment show that the students in the experimental class had betterreading scores than the control class.And the results of the questionnaire shows that thestudents have accepted the task-based teaching to English reading teaching and like it verymuch.The results offered persuasive evidence to the hypothesis.The fifth chapter comes up with the conclusion about the advantages and limitationsof TBLT,and also suggestions for further studies are given too...
