With the intensification of the English curriculum reform, many researchers and teachers come to attach importance to the studies on English homework. As the close link to everyday English teaching and the effective way of the students’extra-curricular English learning, homework is an essential part of English teaching.The author, by conducting a survey on the assignments from5classes of Junior3students of the same school, analyzed the current homework situation, including teachers and students’attitudes towards conventional English homework, the amount and the levels of English homework and the forms of English homework. The author found out main problems of junior school English homework. With the help of modern learning theories, such as Teaching in Accordance with Student’s Aptitude, Individual Differences Theory, Multiple Intelligence Theory, Zone of Proximal Development Theory, this thesis focuses on what principles should be made use of when teachers design the multi-level English homework and how to organize students’levels design, guide and monitor multi-level English homework, which is to design different tasks to fit the three level groups respectively, and to assist each student to make rapid progress.This experiment is to search for a more suitable and scientific English assignment design mode, in order to make it easier for the students to learn and grasp English, to release them from too much homework, and finally to improve students’efficiency of English learning.Through the case study and analysis of the experiment, the results show:1) ft is possible to create an efficient homework design model catering to individuals. The experiment can help other teachers track down on students’multi-level homework design and enable them to adjust guidance to meet students’needs;2) The experiment can promote the English teaching, motivate students’interest in learning English and enhance their confidence in learning English well;3) Most students take delight in participating in the experiment, showing positive attitudes towards this approach. With the positive results achieved from the experiment, the author concludes that multi-level homework design can be effectively and favorably applied to junior high schools.Meanwhile, in the process of carrying out the research, though there were some problems and difficulties, the existing problems in the practice of multi-level English homework may become the new study issues in the future.
