Cooperative learning is one of the teaching models in class, which is used more and more widely in the world in these years. And it is also a kind of creative and effective teaching theory and strategy system. In the1970s, cooperative learning became a fashion in American educational field, which achieved the widespread attention before long. Since1990s, cooperative learning and group cooperation came into middle and primary schools in our country. It is often traditionally argued that an extroverted person is well suited to language learning. Conversely, an introverted person is not easy to learn language because of their shy character. However, the actual research does not always support this conclusion. For example, in the middle school’s English classroom teaching, if we adopt the modes of cooperative learning to organize classroom teaching, the scores of introverted learners and extroverted learners maybe are changed. The aim of the thesis is to study the relationship between introverted/extroverted characters and the mode of cooperative learning in the process of English learning. In this study Eysenck’s Personality E Inventory and Eysenck’s Personality Questionnaire were adopted and administered to57students who come from Class Eight Grade Three in Wanbao Junior Middle School at Daqing city of Heilongjiang Province in order to divide the57students into introverted and extroverted groups. And then the researcher performed the first English achievement testing. In the later three months, these57students in Class eight were taught in classroom instruction under the mode of cooperative learning. In the proceeding step, the second English achievement testing was finished. Besides two English proficiency tests, this study also includes two oral English tests. And the scores of these English proficiency tests and oral English tests are analyzed. The author of this thesis has adopted questionnaire, observation report and pre-test and post-test to collect data. Through the three-month researches, the author aims to investigate whether there is a change in introverted-extroverted students’English achievements after performing cooperative classroom instruction within three months; whether there is a relationship between introvert-extrovert dispositions and the mode of cooperative learning. The findings show that extroverted students have the advantage in communicative skills while introverted students are good at written achievements. After three months’cooperative learning, introverts and extroverts all made a great progress in both oral English and written English, especially, the introverts have the better scores in oral English test than that of the extroverts. This thesis comes to a conclusion that introverts and extroverts have respective advantages and disadvantages, so the popular traditional view,"an extroverted person is well suited to language learning", is doubtful. This study also testifies the point of view that cooperative learning may help introverts and extroverts to overcome the defects of characters in language acquisition and improve their English achievements. So there is a close correlation between extroversion/introversion and the mode of cooperative learning.
