Guangdong, Shandong,Hannan, Ningxia province took the lead in carrying out the reform of new curriculum in September,2004. In2009, Inner Mongolia began to participate in the reform. With the encouragement of the new curriculum reform, the history course structure has had many important changes. For example, the history course has not only compulsory contents, but optional ones. The reform broke the tradtional way of education and added new power to history teaching.According to the requirements of the reform, compulsory courses should be set up in Grade One first and later optional ones. The students can choose their favourite courses, no matter what grade, what class they are in. The reform helps students develop their interest and hobbies. The appearance of optional courses raises students’interest and is welcomed by many studetns. But when carrying out the reform, some problems appeared, such as the problems related to choosing text books and teachers’ability. So how to carry out the history optional courses is the major problem that schools have been discussing about. The writer attempts to find out the solutions to the problems met in the process of carrying out the reform and find some theoritical and practical materials for the reform of the new curriculum in Inner Mongolia. The first Senior High School has made many attempts in the reform of history optional courses. When setting up the curriculum, our school choose optional Book I and Book IV, according to the requirements of the collegue extrance examination and students’interest. When carrying out the reform, we first do an inquiry, then choose the optional text book, based on students’ interest. Later make a detailed plan, which includes the choice of teachers, the organization and management of students. Finally at the end of the term, do an inquiry again and compare the two inquiries, then analyze the results. When having an introspection of the reform, we analyze the used plan again and find out the still existing problems, such as the limitation of choosing optional text books, the contradiction between time and teaching styles, the college entrance examination oriented problems, the quality of the teachers, limited teaching sources, and the unsound system of teaching assessment. Then put forward the way to solve the problems above and try best to choose the text book that suits our students, rather than follow others. Besides, try to make the optional materials permeated through compulsory teaching. As for teachers, we try every means to develop the teachers’ability in optional courses:We also try our best to find out some good sources that suits our students and reduce the difficulty of what they will learn. We make the full use of the long-distance education and share the information to make sure that the reform of the optional courses can really take effect.
