Washback refers to the positive or negative effects that tests may haveon teaching and learning. Ever since the1990s, a large number of studieshave been conducted at home and abroad on washback effects oflanguage testing, resulting in a deep understanding of some relatedhypothesis and theory system. Some empirical study on extensive andhigh-stake tests did give rise to the reform and innovation in languagetesting and teaching. This thesis tries its efforts to do some research onthe concerning question. The goals of the research are:(1) Reveal thewashback effect of NMET on senior three students.(2) How o evade thenegative effect of NMET and strengthen the positive effect of NMET inreading learning. This thesis is composed of six chapters. Chapter one isan introduction to the background and significance of the study. Chaptertwo reviews the basic theory on washback, brief introduction to NMETand Reading. Chapter three addresses the design of the present study.Chapter four is Four Data Collection and Analysis. Chapter five is majorfindings and discussions. Chapter six puts forward some suggestions andstates the limitations of the present study. It is hoped that the presentresearch can provide us with some useful information and suggestions for improving senior English reading learning in the future.
