In1227, Hsi-Hsia was conquered by Mongolian, the peoples of Tangut, Han, Tibetan, Uighur or other ethnic who used to live in Hsi-Hsia were called Tangut or He-His People, during Mogolia-Yuan dynasty. At that time, Hsi-Hsia decendents of various class or vocation enjoy different status at different period of that dynasty. In the military field:Tangut ke-igten who came from noble family can only be santisfied with their work, and cannot tnterfer affairs of politics, and they were even excluded from the ke-igten troops after Yingzong period. Furthermore, although Mongolian archons give the rights of control weapons to the Tangut officials who were in a high grade, but they take a defensive attitude to the Tangut people who were in a low or middle class. On the economic field:Mongolian archons give a favourable treatment to the Tangut only in early period. They were offen rewarded by the empror or khan, and accumulate wealthy under the shelter of the imperial power during the First-Four Khan and Kublai Khan periods. However, during the time of Chengzong, Wuzong and Renzong, the imperial government began to restricted the rewared to only a few Tagut family. At the last period of Yuan dynasty, government even have nothing valuable to rewared them. For the lower class of Hsi-Hsia descendants, the Confucian scholars and monks enjoyed preferential treatments such as an exempt for tax or mixed pan messenger. On the other side, Tangut soilders and posters afford a heavy burden that against their living. On the culture and educational field:there were a lot of Tangut Jinshi during Yuan dynasty, and they came from diversification, some of them even participate in ZuoBang examination (a test for only Han-nationality and Nan-nationality), and most of them were appointed to the southern China. The tangut GuoZi-srudent prefer take part in imperial examination and to be an official rather than to be a scribe or a dean in school, which would make them become oblivion. The traditional Confucian culture and a double preferential politics made by government eventually bring the superiority for Tangut in such field. From all above, we can draw the conclusion that although Tangut was a ethnic group of The Semu People, however, they can not be equal with The Semu People. They enjoy a treatment that better or worse than other ethnic group in The Semu People in some fields. |
