The system of official assessment and promotion and relegate is an importantaspect in the study of political system in Liao dynasty. But because of the lack ofhistorical data, the study on the system of official assessment and promotion andrelegate in Liao dynasty is the weak link, there is no specific works at present. In thispaper, the literature combined with stone material, try to draw the outline of thegeneral picture of the system of official assessment in Liao dynasty. In addition,theassessment system including examination and supervision.The examination isinspected the achievements in one’s official career.While the supervision is supervisedofficial illegal act in the process of performing their duties. So this article combine thesystem of official examination and the system of supervision. The results of thesystem of official assessment as the important basis of promotion and relegates,making for supervising and urging officials conscientious, improving administrativeefficiency. Therefore, the system of official assessment and promotion and relegate toconsolidate regime evolvement, promote the development of social economy andculture at that time played an important role, and has a great influence on latergenerations.This article is divided into three chapters, from three aspects to explore thesystem of assessment and promotion and relegate in Liao dynasty.The first chapter mainly discusses the system of official assessment in Liaodynasty. First traces the system of examination and supervision from the Westernzhou dynasty to the Tang dynasty and Song dynasty; and the development of thesystem of official assessment in Liao dynasty. Secondly, this paper discusses theinspection institution and assessment officials. From the central and local respectively illustrates the setting of the inspection agencies and officials, as well as theassessment of official duties. Thirdly,mainly discusses the content and standards ofassessment system.The integrated use of Tang dynasty "four good and twenty-sevenbest"is the the content and standards of assessment system in Liao dynasty.The second chapter mainly discusses the system of official promotion in Liaodynasty.The reason of officials promotion summarizes from nine aspects,and thepromotion types are divided into three kinds.The third chapter mainly discusses the system of official relegates in Liaodynasty.The cause of the official relegates divided into seven aspects,and the kinds ofofficial relegates divided into recall and demoting.All in all, the system of official assessment in Liao dynasty for maintaining theorder of rule and punishing illegal officials, urged officials loyal to the government atall levels, the respect such as law-abiding play an important role.
