Party adaptability is a kind of capicity to responde to the environmental changes,which makes an overall effect on the stability of party and political system. Thetheory of party adaptation is an important concept to explain the transformation of theChinese Communist Party, and it is used in various subsystems of party reforms.Systematically describing political adaptation theory, recalling the ChineseCommunist Party’s research status, this paper concludes that both the endogenousadaptation model by Harmel&Janda and the exogenous adaptation model byAppleton&Ward have a strong explaining power on the Chinese Communist Party’sadaptation.The origins of party adaptation lie in external challenges and internal changes,behavior motivation is the dynamic factors, and collective leadership is the keyvariable of party adaptation. The Chinese Communist Party has a heavy responsibilityto govern both the party and the country. In order to building a well-off society in anall-round way, reach the goal of the realization of the socialist modernization and ourgreat national rejuvenation, the Chinese Communist Party has encountered manychallenges, which origins from both external and internal environment. Nowadays,external challenges includes globalization, economical change and economicdevelopment, social change and political reform, and internal changes dilute theideological, organizational structure change and the institutionalization of politicalparties.Facing these challeges and changes, just roll up the sleeves and do it. Partyadaptation is a systematic engineering of self-purification, self-perfection,self-innovation and self-development. Party adaptation involves value, organization,and institution, includes inclusive ideology, ramming the organization andinstitutionalization, aiming at enhancing the creativity, rallying power and combatcapability of the Chinese Communist Party. The orientation of the Chinese Communist Party’s adaptation is to build a study-model, innovation-model, andservice-oriented Marxist ruling party, and improve level of leadership and competencein power on the whole.
