Han dynasty,an era full of pioneering spirit,in the process of feudalsociety reflected a thriving scence whether in political, economic,military orculture. The powerful empire also germinated a grandeur style in arts. Whichinturn indicate the strong creativity and vitality of ancient Chinese nation.A typical example of this art is the stone sculptures that stand before the tomb ofHuo Qu Bing(a great General in ancient times) in Xing Ping county, Xian Yangcity. These works initiated the image colour of sculpture in Han dynasty.Among the series,“Horse riding Huns”,which appears to be the horse steppedon the huns, is the theme sculpture with unique forms of art and modelinglanguage which achieved an insurmountable level in picture forming andhandling skills.The art of sculpture focus on the space division and possess.(Using arc, straightline and oblique line to divide space) A fine work by handling theinterpenetrating in space delicately becomes a symbol of wisdom.My graduation work (Dream of/as horse) includes3pieces of stone sculptureand4wooden ones. In the work I’ve made a study of modeling language aboutthe relation between the man and the horse. With my special favor of marveloussculptures of Han dynasty. I aimed to examine my understanding of modelinglanguage and comprehension of ethnic culture in Han dynasty by analysing thefamous statue Horse riding Huns in-depth both from modeling characteristicsand form language and through my practice in graduation work.
