Based on the reading of Chen Ran’s series of works, this dissertation aims to present a comprehensive description of cabin fever in his creation. With a combination of essays, diaries, interviews and other authentic materials, this dissertation tries to analyze the psychological text symbols and the migration of the author’s mental state. What’s more, by illustrating the text, the author will also discuss the influence of Chen Ran’s disease mental on his writing style, the personal ideological significance and aesthetic value from the perspective of the contemporary language context. This dissertation will be divided into three parts. The first chapter will provide a comprehensive explanation of Chen Ran’s "cabin fever", based on psychology and psychoanalysis. With this explanation, the current situation of cabin fever, its causes, and textual representation will also be presented. Besides, this chapter will also explore the opportunity of how the author’s morbid psychology converts to his writing resources, as well as the psychological significance of Chen Ran’s claustrophobic psychology in the present context of language study. Chapter Two and Chapter Three will elaborate the influence of Claustrophobic psychology on literary creation. Firstly, it would enter into the world of women so as to summarize various images of women in the novel, including sick girls, urban white-collar works and small-town women. These images construct a personalized claustrophobic woman system. Besides, a discussion about the morbid and mysterious nature of the characters also explores the writer’s understanding of self-revelation, and analyzes her contribution to the modern construction of the female images. In Chapter Three, the readers will experience writer’s claustrophobic sense of space through reading the texts. Space images in Chen Ran’s novels are closed, which results in the artistic effect of the space condensation of time and space. The space image is derived from the writer’s claustrophobic psychological and personal life experience. Therefore, except for the interpretation of space images of art and literature, this chapter also analyzes the writer’s "Nunnery complex""tub clean" and "room complex". Last but not the least, with the clue of Chen Ran’s "cabin fever-exodus-return", this part again reflects the close relationship between morbid psychology and reality. Through the development of the claustrophobic psychological thought, this part would analyze the change of mental introspection as well as the spirit of renewal. It is Chen Ran’s lonely and painful life experience makes her hope to sooth her real emotional pain through literature. The state of writing not only isolates her from the space of public discourse, but also makes writing more marginalized. The richness of woman’s consciousness makes creation become a pioneer of the literary experiments, while Chen Ran’s spiritual fission also promotes the female literature and private writing to a higher platform. Through Chen Ran’s writing process, this dissertation will also reflect this "phenomenon" writer’s influence on the present literary creation and reception. The whole dissertation will analyze the close relationship among the writer’s real situation, spiritual experiences and literary creation.
