Su Song Prose Research

Over the years, researches on Su Song often focused on his political thought value, science and technology, literature, poetry, etc. But his proses were rarely mentioned in academia, which were relatively intact, massive, diverse in style and rich in content. In order to compensate for the loss and regret, Su Song’s proses will be conducted a comprehensive and deep research on the basis of predecessors’ research results in this paper, to make a full and objective evaluation on his proses.Introduction part in this paper is about the research status of Su Song’s literature in academia. Values of Su Song’s proses, research purpose, significance and methods of this paper are briefly introduced in this part. Core content of this paper is divide into four aspects. Firstly, the influence of his extraction, lifetime and main friends on his political tendency and prose creation is explored. preserve situation of his proses is investigated, value of his proses is discussed.Secondly, Su Song’s political essays are discussed to analyze his political principles in the background of fierce conflict between new party and the old one. Research is started from some significant events which exist wide divergence in later generations’ evaluation. Su Song’s status and standpoint in some important historical events, such as Qingli Reforms, Xining Reforms, Restructuring of Genpo, Yuanyou style, are investigated. The reason why he could survive from party disaster alone is analyzed. Thirdly, his epitaphs, records, books, sequences, which possessed strong literary flavor, are classified and researched. Historical biography feature of epitaph, literature feature of prose, literary concept of book prefaces are core content in this part. The fourth part is general control of Su Song’s proses from macroscopic and microscopic perspective, to analyze his rational, practical, fresh and strong style of proses, and a comparison between Su Song’s proses and Shen Kuo’s, whose proses also owned the feature of erudite scientist in that same age, is made to unscramble Su Song’s proses objectively and truly.
