Application Of Artistry And Practicality Drama Theater Arts

Theatre has a close relationship with practical utilities from its happening. Thecharacteristics of theatre, such as groups, playabilities, liveness and creativeness derivevarious functions of theatre, such as educational function, social function, political function,as well as entertainment function, etc. During the historical development process of theatre,different functions were to be selected according to different social needs. However,historical limitations make these functions blended into the carrier of theatre arts to be bred.Until the beginning of20th Century, under the influences of globalization, cultural diversitiesand interdisciplinarity, conception of theatre arts is continuously innovated. Theatrepractitioners applied the forms of theatre on the purpose of the practical values, resulting incommunity theatre, theatre in education and so on. But this stage is just a process of AppliedTheatre gestated in the Arts Theatre. It is in the same carrier with the Arts Theatre rather thanseparate from it。At the end of1970s, theoretical system of Human Performance Studiesrepresented by studies of Richard· Schechner was established. That laid the theoreticalfoundation for practical utilities of theatre, which differed from the theoretical system oftraditional theatre. Practical function of theatre in its true sense is formed as an individualsubject. Therefore, in order to distinguish the two theatre types with distinct purposes, wecalled the type with the purpose of aesthetic as Arts Theatre and the type with the purpose ofpractical utilities as Applied Theatre. However, during the process of practical application,they have some pro-forma similarities and intersects, so it is easy to make us feel confusedsome time. Continuous improvements in practice and theory of this new field are needed.Practicability in Art Theatre and artistry in Applied Theatre is one part of intersects of thesetwo types of theatre. This paper takes the theoretical definition of Art Theatre and AppliedTheatre as the cornerstone, combining with my own practical activities for case analysis torefine the detail practical parts in Art Theatre and artistic parts in Applied Theatre.Meanwhile contrasts their differences from commonness, as well as commonness fromdifferences, with the aim of summarizing clearer theory for practitioners.
