His three epistolary novels arePamela, Clarissa, Grandison, which play a significant role in the history of Englishnovel. These novels made a huge splash throughout the English and European readers.Most of his novels’issues are moral education and psychological characters. He is alsogood at describing people’s emotion and psychological changes. Known as the firstmodern novel in English literary history, Pamela is the most important one of hisworks.The study on Richardson’s works mainly center on the perspectives of epistolaryfiction artistry, psychological analysis, moral admonition, narrative skill, feminismand sentimentalism. However, the research of Richardson’s feminism view is notsystematic. Resorting to the ex-achievement a B out his novels, this paper takesPamela as analyzing novel to reexamine his female image and investigate his visionof women.besides the introduction and summary, this paper includes the following threechapters.The introduction first takes a brief account of the author’s life and the essays thatanalyze his novels throughout the world. Second, the introduction introduces histhree novels: Pamela, Clarissa and Grandison.The first chapter centers on the society of England in the18th. After The Glorious Revolution, England developed very fast and became a capitalist society. However,people’ moral level was degenerated. These conditions forced the novelists grope forthe solution. Richardson’s Pamela is one of these novels. In the family, althoughfeminist sprout in the18thcentury, females still hold a low position and they are evenregarded to be affiliated to their husbands.The second chapter analyzes the feminism view of the novel. In Pamela themaidservant resists Mr. B’s aggression firmly. Although she is a maidservant, she hasa same soul as the princess. Her numerous struggles reflect her feminism: refuse to beinfringed on from man. As a moral admonition novelist, Richardson creates Pamela asa model who frights for her rights. These all show Richardson’s feminism view.The third chapter focuses on the limitation of Richardson’s passive view onfemale. Although Richardson is a male writer who cares about the fate of the female,he gives Pamela a simulated female voice. He cannot break away from the patriarchalideology and he still holds the view the women must be subordinated to men. Aftermarriage Pamela lost her resistance, instead she was very grateful to Mr. and becamean exemplary role.The summary part reviews the whole research. Although Richardson’s worksreflects his feminism view, he cannot break away from the patriarchal society.
