Lu Yao and his series have become a beautiful scene in the historyof Chinese contemporary literature. Lu Yao was almost “stubborn”adhering to the traditional realism. He entered the real life andcontributed his all life energy. He is as Sisyphus and Don Quixote. Hecontributed the novel The Ordinary World, which is closed to the heartsof readers.However, there are something important should be pay attention to.The novel is very popular and has been deeply loved by specific readerssince it came out of the world. It still did not lose the unique charmin the increasingly diverse days in literature. Obviously, the novel hasleft a deep impression in the reader’s mind. It conveys warmth, comfortto those who desire to comfort the soul. It shapes the positive value ofpowerful forces and brings strong intellectual support for the people inthe struggle.In the past, the researches of Lu Yao and his works mostly around thework theory, theory of the writer and the writing psychology. This articlewill put the public’s acceptance as the breakthrough point, and combinewith the results of the past. The paper will use data collection method,literature review method, questionnaire method, and the analysis summarymethod to carry out the research. The research purpose of this paper isto explore why The Ordinary World is called “classic”. What meaning thisnovel has in the present literary world.The text is divided into four chapters: the history of the happeningof the novel, the reader’s acceptance to the novel, the novel’s artisticvalue and it’s contemporary significance. The first chapter will talkabout the happening of the novel respectively from the novel’s production,publishing, distribution, and the spirit character of Lu Yao. The secondchapter will start the research of public’s acceptance phenomenon from the novel’s public acceptance situation, the college party’s acceptancesituation and analysis of reading and sales results.In order to ensurethe objectivity and comprehensive of the survey results, this article willrefer to primary and secondary data. The primary data includes somequestionnaire data from several universities, a enterprise and thelibrary’s readers. The secondary data comes from others’ survey resultsin the past. The third chapter will explore the novel’s artistic valuesfrom the misery theme, all kinds of character images and artistictechniques employed in the novel. The fourth chapter discusses TheOrdinary World as a “classic” in the contemporary meaning: how toexplore the possibility of rural China’s development path, how toestablish the existence of people, and how to find double end-results ofour bodies and souls. Whether the style of traditional realism does anyhelps to the future? Is there long-term vitality of literature or not?What should we do to realize readers’ literature is looking forward toin the face of commercial tide?Finally, we should hold a rational and calm attitude to Lu Yao andThe Ordinary Word, as well as those similar to it that are very popularin a particular group. We should alert that Lu Yao was unconditionally“deified”, or The Ordinary World was called the absolute classic. Thenovel is just as a specific group of “classic” after all. Compared withthose novels which have real classic value and significance in the historyof literature, The Ordinary Word dose exist some limitations andshortcomings. It also needs to constantly breakthrough and beyond.
