There are many “white lies” in our daily life which exist in any field of our life.People may tell a white lie at any time and anywhere. Basing on the Speech Acttheory and previous researches, we try to discuss white lies in a comprehensive wayaccording to the white lies from the hot TV series the happy life of Jin tai lang.Firstly, aiming at the contentious definition of white lies, we give lies and whitelies a clear definition. Basing on the concrete white lies from this TV play, we analyzeand summarize the factors which have an influence on white lies. After that, weclassify them from different perspectives. Secondly, we pay more attention to probeinto how white lies put into effect, including the condition, expression form andpragmatics functions. After analyzing and arranging, we discover that when speakersare telling a lie, they tend to use two or more clauses, declarative sentence andsyntactical structure like “It was/is... that...”. And in respect of words, speakers preferto using first person, adding some adjectives, adverbs, exclamations or repetition.Among these ways, adverbs are most frequently used. Besides, speakers also tend touse some discourse markers, for example,“I am saying to you”,“well”,“I am tellingyou” and so on. However, in order to make the listeners believe what they say, speakers often adopt the structure “center component plus behind auxiliarycomponent”. Apart from the particular structure, speakers still choose somepragmatics tactics, such as taking advantage of the third person and bedding on thefacts. Finally, we sum up the pragmatics functions of white lies in this TV play.
