Whitehead's Speculative Philosophy From The Relationship Between Man And Nature

The relationship between men and nature has been frequently discussed. However, humans still constantly feel pressure from nature:they don’t know how to handle their relationship with nature, nor do they know how to deal with themselves. This paper aims to explore the nature of the relationship between people and their environment from the speculative philosophy of Whitehead and several categories from speculative system.Under the influence of the mechanistic cosmology, people stick to a static conception of matter. This thinking model not only overlooks the reality of nature, but also causes the split between human and nature. We didn’t seek for solutions until the conflicts escalate. Whitehead saw opportunities in the new scientific outlook. The cosmology of organism overturns the conception of reality. According to Whitehead,"events" are real existence, and the only valuable existence. Whitehead’s speculative philosophy resorts to both reason and experience. With such an appeal, he raised a new cosmology category based on true reality."Experience","creativity","harmony" are not only used on the level of metaphysics, but also used to explain the empirical world. This paper focused on the application of these concepts in the relationship between men and nature. By these concepts, human being and nature are redefined as organic existence of time. Nature has its own power of self-actualization. People are part of nature, so they have such a power too. Meanwhile, they are also the tools of nature to realize self-actualization. The conflict between men and nature is actually the inevitable result of this self-actualizing activity of nature. People can only speculate their involvement in this adventure of nature when they see their limits.Speculative philosophy provides instructive methods of keeping openness and using "creativity". This is the feature of Whitehead system, and the vehicle by which we understand men and nature. For us, we need to keep our mind open and creative. It is impossible for us to fully understand nature, but we can enhance the power of our reason, and rediscover the world in this process. In this way, we can overcome our blindness and harvest clearer insights of the world.
