| The Hezhong prefecture as a very important defensive prefecture was located in the central part of China. It was close to Chang’an, and was also a strategically defensive place of Pujin Gate, which was a vital communication line from Hedong and Hebei to Guanzhong, so it had immensely strategic importance. The salt pond it had would create great economic value, there was no doubt that Tang Dynasty would take it seriously.The thesis is a case study mainly aiming at the Hezhong prefecture. The entering of Shuofang Army made the early development of Hezhong prefecture took the intense color of Shuofang Army. Therefore, the auther divides its development history into four periods:the period of early foundation the period of Shuofangã€the period dominated by central government of Tang Dynasty and the period of the local forces. But the thesis mainly explores the periods dominated by Shuofang and central government of Tang Dynasty. After the rebellion of Huangchao, several local prefectures became more and more powerful, which made Hezhong prefecture gradually be a vassal place. And it is not included in the thesis. Generally speaking, the thesis includes six parts:The opening part is introduction. It mainly introduces the general research situation about the prefecture of Tang Dynasty just from the viewpoints of entire research and individual cases and explains the reasons of choosing the topic.The first chapter briefly introduces military government and traffic of Hezhong prefecture. Section one mainly discusses its establishment and development, and analyzes the reasons why Hezhong prefecture finally gives up the name of "Hedong" and elaborates its development path from Hezhong Fangyushi to Hezhong Jiedushi, which gradually develops into five states including Hezhongã€Jinã€Jiangã€Ciã€Xi. Section two mainly analyzes its strategic importance from the point of unique transportation geography, and talks about the reason why Shuofang Army are stationed in the area of Hezhong after the faillure of Mangshan.The second chapter is about the culture and economy of Hezhong prefecture. Firstly, it introduces the culture of Hezhong, which had a long history and renowned humanities, three big cultural families. Secondly, it expounds the cultural identity between Hezhong and Guanzhong, and also analyzes the big centrifugal force among the three prefectures in Hedong area. In the part of economy, it mainly talks about its traditional agriculture〠mineral resources and the salt pond which brings a lot of commercial viabilityThe third chapter is about the relationship between Hezhong and Tang Dynasty. By analyzing all the successive military governors from the aspects of their kindsã€term of officeã€the ways of taking up the post, it finally summarizes their characteristics. From the Tang Dynasty’s supervision and control, we can reach the conclusion that the central government takes different control efforts in different periods.The fourth chapter is the relationship between Hezhong and prefectures around it. It mainly talks about the balance among Hezhongã€Zelu and Hedong, the historical origins between Hezhong and Binning, the strategic relationship between Hezhong and Tongzhou. Finally it comes to a conclusion that the Hezhong prefecture plays different roles in the relationship with different military prefectures.The final part is the conclusion. This part makes a brief summary of main contents and viewpoints of the thesis. |
