Ang Lee was born in a literary family, he has been influenced by "Confucianspeeches" when he was young. He has a deep feelings to the Confucianism, Taoism,Buddhism, he has a deep understanding to the western culture as well.he is awell-known Chinese director who also got a great reputation in the global filmindustry. multicultural coexistence in modern society, Ang Lee realized the greatimportance and value of carrying forward national tradition and traditional culture.The power of cultural conquest becomes more and more important. Ang Lee followedthe Chinese traditional ethics, and put the traditional ethics culture and nationalsymbol into this ethics, expressing his deep emotion for finding his own roots, alsoshowing a strong awareness of cultural belonging for Chinese filmmakers. he also donot stick to traditional conventions, the authority of superstition.he accept and absorbuseful idea from western civilization,which has more characteristics of the times.Cultural tolerance, and attitude to swallow everything together constitute the film thespiritual beliefs and cultural taste.Since1992, he launched the first film "pushing hands", Ang Lee created theother11movie work which are "wedding banquet"(1993),"the natural instincts ofman"(1994),"sense and sensibility"(1995),"ice storm"(1997),"ride with the devil"(1999),"Crouching Tiger,Hidden Dragon"(2000),"green giant"(2003),"BrokebackMountain"(2005),"lust and caution"(2007),"Taking Woodstock"(2009),"life of Pi"(2012).5of them are Chinese tablets and the other6are involved foreign language.The movie theme is rich, and throughout the eastern and western cultures, his filmsgot great and long cultural enlightenment.This paper Based on these11films asanalysis text and divided into four chapters to illustrate Ang Lee’s film, survivalphilosophy, image style, multiplicity of culture, and gain and loss. These can show thefeature of multiple cultures during Ang Lee’s film.The introduction mainly introduces the study background. It combed the presentsituation, the existing problems and the value. According to the non-system and non-integrity characteristic, the paper creates own research ideas innovative points.The first chapter mainly discusses Ang Lee film’ s survival philosophy. He use anarrative attitude, connect the West aesthetic mastery with east.His ideas start with“family”. By asking humility and expressing survival tragedy, he illustrated the desireto go back home, which inspect the home hardship and rebirth in Cultural Revolutionperiod.The second chapter discusses the image style of Ang Lee’s film. Ang Lee learnedlanguage and the production system from Hollywood advanced film.Moreover, healso established a mirror with the traditional culture. His overall stability and flat lenslanguage, shades affordable film tone, restrained musical and poetic film artisticconception, and tidy film editing, form implicit and neutral film image style to AngLee. This stable, flat and soft features consist with the movie theme perfectly.The third chapter discusses the implicit image style and survival philosophy inAng Lee’s film. The reasons why Ang Lee can walk freely between western andeastern cultures are because of his multiple cultures and his displaced survivalenvironment. This non-replicable cultural experience made his rare masterpiece.The fourth chapter discusses the gain and loss from multicultural exploring. Hismovie arrived a perfect balance between humanity meaning and and commercialappeal, nationality and times. but shortcoming s also exists.Therefore, it is necessaryto analyze the partial deletion, the future development of Chinese film to get somemore inspiration.Ang Lee absorbed from outstanding cultural achievements, and write his storiesin a wide vision, and always express the meaning of culture transmission whichshowing the spirit of respecting arts for a Chinese film maker. In eastern culture view,Ang Lee’s movie is western, but in western culture point, his movie is easten. Justbecause of this “both west and east” characteristics, Ang Lee’s film created moreartistic charm which has beyond the west and east art.
