The drawing has gone through several crises in the art history, but thepainterliness has made it find rescue in desperate circumstances and keep youthforever. This paper focuses on the painterliness, and the first part concludes theconcept definition of painterliness, which is more concrete reflection of paintinglanguage in the broad sense besides the brushwork and painting traces valueduniversally in the contemporary painting. The second part adopts a comparativeapproach to arrange how the history of oriental and western art gradually developsinto a dominant factor from a recessive factor, becoming an important principle ofevaluation contemporary drawings. The third part analyzes how the painterliness hasbeen conveyed in the drawings from technique, form and materials, and makes effortsto illustrate how excellent works surpass images and ordinary paintings by analyzingseveral works in quite different styles, presenting the unique artistic charm. The fourthpart states my exploration of painting expression through subject selection and pictureprocessing of my works. The fifth part emphasizes the significance of painterlinessamong contemporary drawings once again through analyzing the essentialrequirement of drawings, historical heritage of Chinese art context, and howcontemporary drawings become the valuable works of art.
