| The thesis explores Chinese opera, an important branch in Chinesemusic; and composer JIN XIANG, an excellent individual in the history ofChinese opera. On the basis of his works after The Savage Land in the1980s,the author explores the contribution made by JIN XIANG to the developmentof Chinese new opera. The thesis concludes distinguishing features of JINXiang’s works including combination of oriental and occidental styles,respect for Chinese art tradition, attention to new trends and aestheticexploration for stage requirements and various audience. Last but notleast, the thesis summarizes changes brought by JIN XIANG to thedevelopment of Chinese music.The first part introduces the history of germination and growth ofChinese opera on the basis of local music and opera. The history can bedivided into three periods: Chinese opera before the establishment of newChinese government, Chinese opera before Reforms and Opening up andChinese modern opera after Reforms and Opening up.The second part introduces in details the life of composer JIN XIANG.The author analyzes chronologically the works of JIN XIANG in1970s,1980sand in the new century in order to summarize four distinguishing featuresof his works.In the third part, the author firstly classifies eight opera worksof JIN XIANG according to time of composition, theme and innovation andsummarizes similarities and differences of his works and new inventions.Then the thesis analyzes arias of his classic work The Savage Land(YuanYe)and new opera works Women soldiers of the Volunteer Army(Ba Nu Tou Jiang)and Gevap Sonata(Re Wa Pu Liange). The thesis explores the importance andaesthetic values of operas in four angles including wording, melody,singing and performance. |
