The magnificent landscape in Guilin is not only a gift by nature, but has also been mixed withvarious cultural elements as time goes by. The landscape painting is exactly one of them. Alandscape painting about Guilin scenery is certainly a mirror of nature, as well as an image thatgoes beyond the inner world of the painters. The motivation, background and style behind thepaintings deserve an attentive probe. Based on “tour” interest, four landscape paintings about Guilinscenery in the early period of the19th century are selected. Besides, it will also concern with theorigin and development of the “Guilin Eight Scenery” conception, and the artistic communicationamong the literati of Guangxi province, so as to explore their life and works in Jiaqing andDaoguang dynasties.
