"Sutra Of Statue" Resolution

Abstract: Buddha images of Tibetan Buddhism have a long history and a long standing, which formed specific styles in the process of its emerging, development and evolvement. Buddha’s Talk on Measures of Buddha’s Statue serves as guiding principles in building Buddha’s statue in Tibetan Buddhism. The majestic and graceful images of Buddha’s statue basically depends on the passing on of the strict measures of Buddha’s statue, which is a very important factor in establishing the national, religious, regional, historic and aesthetic characters of Tibetan Buddhism culture and traditional Tibetan arts. This paper begins with the elaboration on the historic background of the emerging of Buddha’s Talk on Measures of Buddha’s Statue and the major content of measures of Buddha’s statue, and then discussed the historic and realistic significance of Buddha’s Talk on Measures of Buddha’s Statue, as well as the influence of this Buddhist classics on the modeling and proportion relation of the figure paintings thereafter.
