Zhang Hong lived in the late Ming and early Qing Dynasty. At that time,"Wu School" had become the mainstream of the painting society. It was not only esteemed by the special literati, but also by the ordinary people. Because Zhang Hong had been living in Suzhou area, his contact friends were small and medium-sized painter in Jiangsu and Zhejiang area, including "Wu School" painters. Thus,"Wu School" becomes the main tone of Zhang Hong’s painting style.Zhang Hong is a professional painter to sell paintings for living, and there is no lack of his buyers to has a strong interest in paintings that reflect the social reality and reappear the local natural landscape. As the occupation painter, Zhang Hong, to a certain extent, will cater to the aesthetic interest of the buyers. Therefore, there are some common sentiment in Zhang Hong’s paintings, so that the pictures won the suit and the common people of beauty. Also, Zhang Hong was able to respect his own subjective experience, to observe with his own eyes, to find real mountains and waters of the nature, and finally to paint the natural landscape’s unbeatable beauty. Therefore, his paintings can give people a natural and fresh feeling. Zhang Hong used this way of natural Visual observation to depict the natural scenery, and it has injected new blood to the painting of landscape in late Ming dynasty.Zhang Hong as a small and medium-sized painter of "Wu School", his material is a little and fragmented. This increases the difficulty of Zhang Hong study. In the process of research on Zhang Hong, we can only start from the Zhang Hong paintings. In addition, because of his fame is low, little achievements, he is easy to be ignored. However, he is also contribution of Wu school’s hundred years prosperity. Especially, the creation of Zhang Hong’s landscape painting, in the range of themes, on a certain extent, broke through Shen Zhou, Wen Zhengming, and other representative painters of "Wu school". He depicted the true performance of mountains and waters of Jiangnan, which is very innovative.
