Pindar is a famous ancient Greek lyricist, and the fifth Isthmian is his important work. This article described the writing background, the content, the structure, the metrical and the mode of the fifth Isthmian, especially analyzed the myths, and analyzed poetry with the clue of myths. The article try to tell, what is the different between the myths in the fifth Isthmian and in other Greek mythology, what is the reason. This article is of particular concern, how the fifth Isthmian reflected the relationship of the man and the gods in Pindar’s eyes, and in this situation, what is the plight of man, what should man do.The fifth Isthmian is divided in five strophes, correspond to the five stages of the relationship between gods and man:in the archa, Pindar didn’t obey the usual way of the ancient Greek myth:He vaguely indicated, Thea is the source of honor in sport meets. In the katatrpa, Pindar said that people can win, and to enjoy the glory, but one cannot expect too much, people can get the immortal, unlike the immortal of gods. The omphalos of the ode is the myth of heroes. Hero is between God and man, and heroes are always the people. Heroes gained achievements und well-known, now the Aegean satisfied in the victory at the tournament, and serviced much in the war. Metakatrpa follows katatrpa and omphalos:Zeus is the master of all things, arrange everything, but the efforts can also be paid for. Then the exdodion, the poet reaffirming the victory of the winner, said the laurel and the hymn should be give to the winner, that is, the immortal which people can gain.The time which Pindar wrote the fifth Isthmian was the time of the climax of the Persian War. Pindar worried about Persian War. And he addressed the relationship between the man of God, in order to tell something about the human. Pindar is the national religion of ancient Greece devout. Examine the myth in the fifth Isthmian, help to understand the poetry of Pindar, also contribute to the understanding of the ancient Greek religion.
