A Comparative Study Of Ling Shuhua And Mansfield

Ling Shuhua is one of the Chinese women writers of "May4th" period,her psychological novels that is full of the objective and calm remind researchers ofBritish female writer Katherine Mansfield, who was born Newsland Mansfield’screation is earlier than Ling Shuhua’s,their personality and articles have manysimilarities,so the researchers believe that Ling Shuhua is influenced by Mansfield.therefore,Ling Shuhua was called "Chinese Mansfield" by Xu Zhimo. In addition,two female writers both love Russia’s short story writer Chekhov, and they keepcontact with Woolf,which is the representative figure of the bloomsbury culturecircle, and also are influenced by the impressionist painting, so they have manysimilarities in material,content and characteristics,.while there are some differencebetween their works, because of family environment,background and personalitycharacteristics and other factors.Based on predecessors’ research, the writer try tofind out the similarities and differences in their works by the called "ChineseMansfield" and compare to the same source, typical characters and artistic style.andpoints out that the similarities of their works mainly come from the same artists whomthey deeply appeal to, so Ling Shuhua and Mansfield is a parallel comparisonrelationships, rather than the simple imitation.This thesis is divided into three chapters:The introduction part mainly includes the significance of the paper and sums upLing Shuhua and Mansfield‘s works from the domestic research and the called"Chinese Mansfield" is put forward.The first chapter, The same influence of Ling Shuhua and Mansfield’s short stories.This chapter is divided into three, study the Russian writer Chekhov novels style, theinteractions of the Virginia Woolf and influenced by the French impressionistpainting, in order to prove that LingShuhua has many similarities with Mansfield,andprovide a reliable basis.The second chapter mainly discusses characterization of Ling Shuhua and Mansfield’sshort stories. This chapter is divided into three. The typical female image and male image were selected in two sections to analyze writers’feminism and their difficultexploration on the women liberation road, the third section compares and analyze thechildren image. In the process of detailed text reading, author further analyzes thesimilarities and personal characteristics of novels.The third chapter mainly analyzes rich symbolic images in the two writers’works, andcompare their works artistic features on the similarities and differences.The last part is conclusion. Through above, the author analyze and study thecharacters and artistic form the two writhers’stories which confirm the title"LingShuhua: Chinese Mansfield" by author Xu zhimo, these similarities mainly from thesame writers and genres, but because of these factors,such as personality, familyenvironment and cultural tradition, the difference between two writers also is veryobvious, so Ling Shuhua is parallel to Mansfield,not Ling Shuhua simply imitate ofMansfield.
