Chinese and English speakers may misunderstand each other during theinter-cultural communication due to their different culture backgrounds. According toSchema Theory, this misunderstanding takes place because speakers hold differentschemas. Speakers always trigger their own previous schema which has been built onthe base of their mother tongue. The difference of schema is one of the mostimportant causes of misunderstanding during the inter-cultural communication. Moreand more scholars realize that teaching Chinese is not only to teach the languageknowledge, but also is a teaching progress loading culture. The learners has built theirschema from their first language, thus when they learn Chinese they will put newChinese words into their previous schema, which may lead to misunderstanding. Thisthesis firstly contrasts the connotation difference between Chinese and Englishculture-loading words, and then analyzes the reason making these differences relyingon Schema Theory. Then Chinese Cultural values in these differences are put forward.At last, the thesis comes up with the construction of these values. The construction ofthese values may give directions for Chinese learners during their Chinese learning.
