"Henan Ditty" Erhu Playing Their Versions Research

Henanxiaoqu is a piece of Erhu music composed by Liu Mingyuan, who isa Chinese Huqin Master, based on the performance characteristics of Henan’s“Dadiaoquzi”(Jianjianhua) and “Henanzhuizi”. The music is short but rich in Henanstyle, vividly expresses the local music style of Henan, molds the forthright,humorous and funny image of Henan people and is one of the most typical Erhumusic of Henan style. From the premiere of Henanxiaoqu till now, it has been widelyspread and performed, thus many editions are formed. This paper analyzes the fourmost representative performing editions: the first one is the edition performed by LiuMingyuan; the second is the edition performed by Song Guosheng, who used to learnfrom Liu Mingyuan; the third is the edition performed by Song Fei, Who is SongGuosheng’s daughter; the forth is the edition performed by Hu Zhiping, who iscontemporaneous with Song Fei. Liu Mingyuan is the composer and first performer.His edition is the original edition, while Song guosheng, Song Fei and Hu Zhipingform the excellent editions with their own style by inheriting and learning from Liu’sedition. This paper obtains the deeper understanding of the music and discusses theinnovative thinking of performers in recreation through analysis on creation tones andstructure forms of Henanxiaoqu and comparative study on the editions of the fourperformers.
