| With the rapid development of Chinese urban construction, sculptures are widely used inmany public areas as an essential representative of public art. Since the urban sculptureshave their own particularity, its’ form is between the art and public facility. Specifically, theurban sculptures are served as the public facilities and also affected by the trend of modernart. However, they are different with the common art works in their public features. In thecase of statue of Sun Yat-sen in Xin Jiekou of Nanjing, I analyze it for discussing therelations between sculpture and public space in the aspects of history, surrondings and artistrythrough reading some literatures and field observation. Building sculptures in public areasare not arbitrary and blind. All the factors of the open area should be taken into account asthe requirements and restrictions. As a original sculpture, it has to reflect the localcharacteristics, history, culture and humanities so that can contribute to the virtue education.Therefore, a good sculpture should be harmony with the public area. |
