Vanguard Novel Consciousness Death

Nowadays social politics and economy are developing rapidly while people’s spiritual life is becoming more and more dispirited with fewer and fewer things that could bring people into contemplation. However, death is the most significant event in human’s life. Undoubtedly, to know death is the best way to know life, to experience life and to think about life. Death is included in many Chinese literary works and many writers naturally chose death to express their feelings, narrate stories and put the plot forward. In this area Chinese modern vanguard novels do the best. Vanguard novel is the main form to express vanguard literature. The vanguard novel referred to in this article means narrow vanguard, namely, in the late eighty’s to the early ninety’s, novels featured by form experiment text written by representative writers as Ma Yuan, Zahi Dava, Ge Fei, Su Tong, Yu Hua. Compared with the consciousness of death in previous literature works, vanguard novels’showing of the death consciousness is different, which is full of absurdity, violence, fatalism, lonely consciousness and so on, having a strong impact on the traditional consciousness of death; completely subvert the death perception of people in the past. At present, researches on the vanguard literature have been an immense in number, but mostly focused on the narration of the text, discourse mechanism of comment, lacking of specialized system of vanguard novels in death. This article shows and analyses the consciousness of death in the vanguard novels through intensive reading, and places the consciousness of death in the historical development process of the vanguard novels of death consciousness in Chinese literature in order to show the vanguard novel writers’ concern about human predicament, mental pain, to reveal their keen explore of the existence of people, society, individuals, spirit, and the world of life, and to reflect the humanitarian spirit and humanistic concern of the vanguard writers.
