Incremental Adverbs In Modern Chinese

In the world of people’s cognitive, all things, events and characters contain the factors of amount. We could say that quantity is an indispensible category which people make use of to acknowledge, grasp and present the world. Therefore, the study in quantity arouses Chinese grammar researchers’interest and becomes a hot spot recently. By the summary of previous researchers, we find that there are seldom attentions scalars put on the research in increased quantity category within the Chinese study academia. However serving as an important sub-class type of the quantity category, increased category is in urgent need to be further investigated and researched.This article contains of a total five parts.:The preface part mainly defines the definition of incremental adverbs:Those adverbs working as increment operator combine with other quantitative entity,which makes the in the entire structure increase amount to the positive direction on the basis of same levels with the quantitative entity. So According to Wang Zoning’s Dictionary of Modern Chinese Functional Words, this thesis defines totally180adverbs of increments within the modern Chinese.Chapter one classifies the incremental adverbs systemically form two perspectives as the significance and the sexuality of amount. It defines the concept of increased adverbs into such categories in view of meaning and quantitative as super impossibly duplicating incremental adverbs, continuous incremental adverbs, continuation incremental adverbs, deeper level incremental adverbs, relationship between progressive incremental adverbs, the range expansion incremental adverbs, emotion and modality incremental adverbs. From quantitative perspective, it can be divided into object incremental adverbs, subjective incremental adverbs, the fuzzy incremental adverbs, the exactly increased in the amount adverbs, an increase in the amount of adverbs, by a small amount of adverbs six categories.Chapter two discusses the characteristic function of the voice, semantics, structure, function, and expression efficiency of incremental adverbs: First, the incremental adverbs usually are stressed syllables or repeated two-syllables. Secondly, the incremental adverbs show typical operator grammatical features, basically performed as "A+B+C+...".Thirdly, the incremental adverbs are parallel, prejudiced, overlap and attached in structure, what’s more, some morphemes of the incremental adverbs are very productive, and most of them are parallel structure, adverbial center phrase structure, overlap structure and backward attached structure. Fourthly, the incremental adverbs act as a secondary role of metering and focus marker in sentences.Chapter3studies the cognitive characteristics of incremental adverbs from a cognitive perspective. First, this paper concludes that the incremental adverbs have typical subjective characteristics in the perspective, emotion, and understanding. Secondly, we also analyzed the cognitive processes of incremental adverbs.
