The concept of “subaltern” has landed in china since the1990s, but the social vulnerablegroups that it refers to is general in the long history of china. Showing a subaltern world is animportant tradition of film creation in china. There are many films which reflect the variety ofimages in the subaltern society, and these films have different aesthetic styles. The aestheticform of tragicomedy is emphasized in the dissertation which aims to explore how to presentthe “subaltern”. The dissertation is divided into the following sections,Chapter one is about the tradition of presenting the life in the subaltern world, which aimsto discuss the significance of presenting the subaltern images from the art plasticity and thesocial representation.Chapter two is about the aesthetic form of tragicomedy, which aims to demonstrate it is fitto present the life in the subaltern society.Chapter three analyses the films in the style of tragicomedy according to the four periodsof the1930s, the1980s, the1990s and the twenty-first century.Chapter four is about the main problems of films which presents the subaltern world nowand what the form of tragedy and comedy means to the current creation. Finally, it also pointsout the problems should be paid attention to in the creation in the form of tragicomedy.
