Shanjuxinyu, which is written by Yang Yu, an author living in Hangzhou at Yuan Dynasty, has a great value on historical sources. Although the length of this book is not long, the topics involved in are various. This thesis attempts to analyse the historical sources and the versions of Shanjuxinyu by investigating Yang Yu’s life career and, by using the methodology of philology, compare Shanjuxinyu with Nancunchuogenglu and Yuanshi. My dissertation is divided into five parts, and its arrangements are as follows:Chapter I provides Yang Yu’s life trajectory, intending to defend his life from the wrong records. Chapter II studies the different versions of Shanjuxinyu and examines their circulation at the course of time. In Chapter III, after an exhaustive analysis of its historical sources, I confirm that most of descriptions in Shanjuxinyu are of high credibility. The core of my dissertation is Chapter IV, which highlights the historical value of Shanjuxinyu by comparing it with other two works, i.e. Nancunchuogenglu and Yuanshi. In the final part, the shortcomings and deficiencies of my paper are illustrated.
