The existence of aristocratic families is a distinct phenomenon in ancient history of China. Husi family once was a distinguished aristocratic family in Chinese medieval period. There were many famous historical figures belong to the family, such as Husi Chun who once played an important role in the disintegration of Beiwei and Husi zheng who fled to Corea in Sui dynasty. Nevertheless, there is still no comprehensive study on this family. For this reason, the author deeply felt it is necessary to do the systematic research on this topic. Based on the considerations that mentioned above, this article aims to analyze the ethnic group and development process of the family on the basis of the interpretation of literature and epigraph materials. On the whole, the Northern and Sui dynasties are the heyday of Husi family whose most members were militaries. With the rapid development of the civil service examination system, because of its low level of civilization the Husi family gradually declined in politics and economics in Tang dynasty. As a consequence, there are relatively few materials in traditional literature. The existence of more than ten epitaphs provides the possibility of deep research on this family. The history of Husi family is an epitome of prosperity and decline of aristocratic families in the medieval period.
